Personally, I don't think that we should look at this issue from a broad perspective. It is not a matter of politics. However, I believe some people see it as a battle between socialism and capitalism. We should be focusing on the particular situation that we face now, although for some the opening of Starbucks symbolizes "the triumph of capitalism" even in our campus. It is true that this store appeals to a limited number of students compared to the other ones. Nevertheless, we should be realistic, and consider the fact that the university needs some funds to provide some facilities to us. There is no need to be extremist, we can find the best solution by getting together on the common bases of every type of students. After all, the management has to be very careful about choosing the best option not for the company, but for the students. (Şükrü)

It is a known fact nowadays that multinational companies are going, spreading like mushrooms (as the Turkish saying says), to every corner of the world. It is also known that these multinational companies provide many benefits both to the economies of the host countries and tto the lives of people living in these countries. Taking these realities into consideration and looking at the other side of the picture will make the understanding of the big picture easier. That is to say, multinationals companies, when they come to any country they kill the small businesses. They do not leave any chance for other small businesses to live in the "market" which is not good for both the countries and peoples. There should be some mechanisms controlling these effects of coming multinational companies. It is not advisable for countries to accept all the companies for the sake of "hot foreign capital" in spite of the interests of its people. I am not totally against multinational companies but what I am concerned about is the balance that should be settled. As for "the" Starbucks in our university, I am personally not so sympathetic to it because we as people living in this world should show our ideas and have "says" what is happening all around us. As I said above I am not totally against multinational companies but I think there should be balance, and the balance is of crucial importance in universities, and if there is an intention to open a branch of multinational companies, it should be thought twice before opening one in universities. Universities should not be the places of just "consuming" and the propaganda places of this consuming things.( ömer)
