Starbucks is a famous place to seat and drink coffee. It has a worldwidebland and one of the symbols of the capitalism. There are doubts about the healtiness of its meals in the minds and now there is a Starbucks cafe in our campus. On the other hand, in today's world there are innumerable brands with international network and thereby it is becoming almost impossible to find a prestigious cafe or restaurant with just single store about which we know everything. Obviously, its being of foreign origin is one of the resons that our friends protest, but we should not miss the other important factor lying behind this frustration. Many students also want to have a right to choose the kinds of the stores to be opened in the university campus together with the university administration since we are the ones for whom these stores are opened.
Although we agree that it is every students’ right to have access to healthy and affordable food in or around the campus, we think that the protest against Starbucks is not based only on that. People say that it is the symbol of Capitalism, it represents imperialism etc., but we don’t believe that they really care about this seeing that most of them are wearing Nike and Adidas shoes, Apple computers or other famous American brands. We believe that people are affected easily by the propagandas led by some people having political views and goals and not even being a student of our university. Young people like to gather, oppose and protest, which is the main drive for all the things going on about the opening of Starbucks. We believe that we, as students, have every right to have affordable facilities in our campus, but the protests against Starbucks is not merely about that.
